GP MIDGETS TO KICKSTART 2024/25 SEASON THIS SATURDAY AT WANGARATTA SPEEDWAY

The Victorian Grand Prix Midget Racing Association's (VGPMRA) Masters Series presented by Stinger Chassis is thrilled to be kicking off for season 2024/25 this Saturday night with the Wangaratta Cup at Wangaratta Speedway. The track has undergone extensive reworks and reshaping over the off-season and early indications suggest that lap records are under serious threat of being broken with high speed action.

Nominations are highlighted by the only previous Wangaratta Cup winner in the field & defending Master Series champion Chris Fowler, along with the 2023/24 Master Series runner-up Terry Brown. Both were separated by inches in the Victorian Title feature race last season before disaster struck and are ready to carry that same red-hot pace this weekend.

Hot on their heels will be the speedy Alex Myers & Travis Florrimell in the Stinger Chassis house car.

Matt Kamolins steps out of the Pitstop Mowers team car, and is ready to put his own V22 through its paces, and Daniel Meredith will make a very welcome return after only competing one meeting last season.

Shawn Ward & Johnny Rouse have had busy off-seasons following their incidents at the season-ending race last season, but repairs have been completed just in time for them to light up the racetrack.

Nominations are rounded out with the next generation of GP Midget drivers with Luke Ward & Locky Robotham in their debuts with GP Midgets. Both come into the seat with prior racing experience, and both will be keen to lean on the expertise of their dads, Shawn & Pete respectively, to bring them up to speed in no time. The VGPMRA wishes both Luke & Locky the best of luck in their first race meeting.

The VGPMRA would once again like to thank Travis Florrimell & Stinger Chassis for once again coming on board as naming rights sponsor for the Master Series. Anyone who is interested in getting into the club to go and have a chat with Travis or any of the club members who will point you in the right direction.

Gates open from 11 and all cars are to be in the pits by 2pm. Racing to start from 4. Tickets are available at the gate and pits will be opened before racing starts so don’t miss out on an opportunity to meet the drivers & check out the cars before they sling some dirt.
